The NEA brief required Parasol Panels to achieve the following things:

  • Provide a system that could be used universally to upgrade the external surfaces of existing mobile and static homes to provide thermal insulation values as close to the current building regulation standards for 'U' values
  • Provide a durable, external surface requiring minimum maintenance
  • Provide a system that would improve, but not radically change the external appearance of the building
  • Provide as cost effective system as possible

But what we had to consider during the R&D stage were:

  • The insulation panels needed to achieve a high thermal performance at a restricted thickness unachievable using traditional insulation materials
  • The external board surfaces needed to be thin, durable, easily bonded to the insulation layer and cost effective
  • The final panel had to be stiff, easy to cut and lightweight for installation
  • The insulation material had to be supported with verifiable results of efficacy
